Net users embrace social networks, but networks don't hire them

MENLO PARK-- The Pew Internet survey reports that African-Americans are the most likely group to use social networks -- with 69 percent of Internet users reporting that they are on networks.

However, they have a much harder time working for some of the most widely used social media sites.  The Black Economic Council plans to picket the new campus of Facebook on Saturday, Aug. 27 because of its failure to disclose the low rates of employment of African-Americans and other underrepresented groups.

Yolanda Lewis, Chief Deputy of the Black Economic Council and a former Silicon Valley professional, stated "Facebook, under Mark Zuckerberg, has ignored the needs of the majority of Silicon Valley's population and small businesses. Until Facebook wakes up to the realities of doing business in California, we will be frequently appearing before the Menlo Park City Council, before the Department of Justice, the White House and at Facebook's new quasi-public campus in Menlo Park to inform the public."
