Sharing the Rich Black Experience in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO -- Wondering why the world's number one tourist attraction doesn't appear to have any African-American attractions?

If your a first-time traveler, or oftentimes, a lifelong resident, it is because you may not know where to look.

San Francisco Black Heritage Tours can provide tours everyday in one of three circuits:

Cakewalk
Cakewalk
an historical novel about the unsung creators of jazz music

JazzGenesis/Gold Rush Abolitionists

Barbecue Boulevard/Bayview

Literary/Cultural Legacy of Western Addition

Daytime tours are $45 from downtown pickups.

After 5 p.m., we offer customized evening excursions among the 60 African-American restaurants and cultural amenities nestled throughout the city.  With a group of six or more, we'll pick you up from a hotel or BART station and include food, dance, music and heritage for the next five hours.  Evening excursion rates are $60 apiece.

For larger groups or conferences, we can design an entire schedule of activities as we have done for organizations such as the Black Caucus of the American Library Association or the American Educational Research Association.

To help design your tour, order our book, Come to the Water: Sharing the Rich Black Experience in San Francisco, which includes a current list of restaurants, personal care facilities, churches and other businesses.
