Red velvet cake and chicken and waffles have become prevalent across the country at African-American restaurants. It took San Francisco chef Michele Wilson, founder of Gussie's Chicken and Waffles, a tribute to her grandmother's cooking, to create red velvet waffles.
Located at 1521 Eddy St. at Fillmore, Gussie's Chicken and Waffles also offers an array of attractive deserts, entrees and appetizers such as peach cobbler, fried okra basket, their Taste of the South special plate and enormous omelets.
