Daily Delicacies March 31

Healthy Soul Choice.  Soul food is not static.  During Black Food Month, we've learned that some of the most revered dishes are actually the result of the agricultural extension work of historically black colleges and universities like Tuskegee Institute at the beginning of the 20th century.  Today's chefs are continuing the pattern of innovation.

Delicacies of the Day. We spent the day sampling Atlanta's best restaurants. Justins, 2100 Peachtree on the outskirts of Buckhead, we tried the soul puffs, flaky pastries with black-eyed peas and collard greens; and a cheese cake with sweet potato shavings piled high atop and strawberry shortcake.

The Busy Bee, 810 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW, has been serving neck bones and liver and onions since 1947, still keeping fresh with a new generation of owners who cater to the Atlanta University Center campuses.

Food for Life Supreme has one of its six locations nationally in the AUC neighborhood at 880 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.  Other sites are: 108 W. 116th St. in Harlem, New York City; 3489 W. Siebenthaler Ave. in Dayton, OH; 4929 Suitland Road in Suitland, MD; 3314 Guess Road in Durham, NC; and 1531  Dixwell Ave. in Hamden, CT
