Daily Delicacies March 29

Oohs and Aahs
Oohs and Aahs
became a national name after a visit from Guy Fieri

Healthy Soul Choice.  Even if not blessed with great marketing budgets, black restaurants always are a good story.  Many benefit from the kind of attention money can't buy.   Michons Smokehouse in College Park, GA got a renovation from Gordon Ramsey; Guy Fieri raved about Oohs and Aahs in Washington, D.C. and every Monday night, there is a viewing party for Dancing with the Stars at Gladys Knight and Ron Winans Chicken and Waffles in Lithonia, GA.

Delicacies of the Day.  Michon's Smokehouse, 1583 Virginia Ave., has Southern favorites like fried pickles and smoked chicken wings, along with the St. Louis style smoked meats.

In Akron, OH, Pammies Restaurant, 1364 Copley Road, is open 12 hours per day with chicken, ribs and fish since 1999.

In Palmdale, CA, strawberry banana pudding is on the menu at DD's Famous Fish Fry and Soul Food, 2260 E. Palmdale Blvd.  With their "you buy, we fry" policy, diners get to select their fish and then have it cooked to order.

Favorite Farmer: Thomas Burrell, Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association.

Cookbook of the Day: Turn Up the Heat by G. Garvin
