La Wans becomes Queen City culinary attraction

Healthy Soul Choice. First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move initiative is part of a major thrust against childhood obesity, growing at alarming rates. Atlanta-based Gourmet Services Inc. is on the front line of that battle. It feeds more than 200,000 school children daily and 40,000 college students.

Delicacies of the Day. Quentin Love's Quench chain of restaurants is growing by providing health conscious diners alternatives without beef or pork. He's up to eight locations in the Chicago area, with plans for nationwide expansion.

The Beautiful Restaurant, 2260 Cascade Road in Atlanta, offers a wide selection of fish, fowl and meats from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

La Wans, 7705 S. Tryon St. in Charlotte, provides fish specials two days per week.

Favorite Farmer: The courageous Shirley Sherrod, still advocating for black farmers.
