Healthy Soul Choice.  Whenever you buy food in a grocery store, you feel reasonably safe about the product in part because of a federal agency called the Food and Drug Administration, led by Dr. Margaret Hamburg.

It regulates food additives and the labels on food.  One of Hamburg's big priorities is insuring that labels not be misleading. “Today, ready access to reliable information about the calorie and nutrient content of food is even more important, given the prevalence of obesity and diet-related diseases in the United States," said Hamburg in an open letter to food manufacturers.

Delicacies of the Day.  Harper's Restaurant, 2610 Jefferson St. in Nashville, near the Tennessee State campus, offers a baked salmon and shrimp dinner on Sundays for less than $10, something to make homesick students clamor for more.

Speaking of prices, Chef Marilyn's Soul Food Express, 2638 Crenshaw Blvd. in Los Angeles, offers corn, tomatos and okra together for 99 cents, along with an array of other vegetables, plus links, chicken legs or thighs and ham hocks.   Every item is under $10.

Henry's Soul Cafe, with two locations in Washington, D.C. and one in Oxon Hill, MD, serves baked turkey wings with stuffing, under $10.

At Yancey's Cafeteria, 1523 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Little Rock, AR, one can get a plate of ribs, pork chops or chicken with two sides and two corn muffins for $7.50
